Storms, Fear, and Pride

May 22nd, an F-5 tornado that had 200 mile per hour winds, hit the town of Joplin, Mo.

Joplin is about 60 miles from Springfield. Joplin is strongly connected to Springfield.

This hits home for me and for countless others in the Springfield area. My heart breaks when I see pictures from Joplin. This is a town that I visited often.

I did my after Thanksgiving and after Christmas shopping there. I played basketball at the high school. I have former students who go or went to school at Southern.

It's heart breaking!!

Last night, another chance for severe weather hit SW Missouri. Joplin was put under another tornado warning about 9 pm. As I sit on my couch wathcing the weather man talk about it, my heart was racing.

How could it happen again? How could it strike in the same place twice in 3 days?

And then my brain thought, "What if it happens here? What will we do?" I have never been one to be afraid of storms. But after I went to bed last night, I layed there listening to the rain and thunder and was almost paralyzed by fear.

Fear that I've never known before.

What if our house gets hit? What if the school gets demolished? What would I do? How would I react?

About 12:30, I was woken up by the high pitched beep of our carbon monozide detectors losing power. Our electricty had gone off. It was pitched black in our house but I got up and checked on my sweet, still sleeping, daughter.

And then it hit me...Molly was the reason I was hindered by FEAR. I am now responisble for another person' s life in a storm. She is my world and I HAVE to protect her!

123 people (so far) lost their lives in the storm that hit Joplin 3 days ago. Countless others have yet to be accounted for. They are saying it's the 8th deadlist single tornado in history.

I've never been one to be scared of storms, but I acn't help but be scared of them now.

I have been wondering what to do to help. I have an overwhelming sense of guilt that I'm not doing more to help. I've thought about skipping out on our yearly Memorial Day trip to the lake(which is awesomly flooded) and going to Joplin to help clean up.

But, to be honest, I'm not sure what I can do in that regard. I'm truly afraid that I will get over there and be overcome by grief. This is a new feeling for me. I'm not sure how to handle this.

My kids and the rest of our department has spent the last 2 weeks collecting items for the Shoebox 4 Soldiers campaign in Springfield. We've filled 24 boxes with items that range from toothpaste, deodorant, and Q-tips to Twizzlers, Slim Jims (RIP Randy Savage) and Soduku books. But after filling the 24 boxes, we had A LOT of stuff left over. Tons more toothbrushes, enough Ramon Noodles and canned food items to feed the entire army for a month...so we donated 4 big boxes tot he relief efforts for Joplin.

So the students were actually able to help the soldiers and the victims of the tornado. I am so proud of our student body!

Top Five

Over at Heart on Homestead...Jessica posted her "eye candy" as she called them...you know, the five people you might leave the spouse for...(sorry babe)...or maybe "hang out" with for a while if you knew you wouldn't get in trouble...or get ice cream with...or do anything they asked you to....

You know, the idea from the "Freeblie List" from "Friends"... I'm pretty much like Rachel, I know exactly who is on my list.

Anywhoo... I'm constantly talking about my top five but have yet to blog about them...so I thought, since I've been absent as of late...I would come back with some "eye candy" of my own...

In all reality...this list might be a few more than five....my bad!

Without furthur ado...here's my top 5...some of which might surprise, confuse, or disgust you...don't judge me!

1. Always at the very top...Johnny Depp

Specifically the Johnny Depp in the "Pirates" movies! YUM!

But this Johnny is not bad either.... It's the dirty, bad boy, things about Depp that I've been in love since I saw a rerun of "21 Jump Street". His movies are almost always weird but they are entertaining and he is sexy...you can't deny that!

#2: Bradley Cooper

The Bradley that's in "Hangover"... he's cocky, arrogant, but aslo caring and just plain sexy! PLUS, he's teacher in the movie! So cute!


But the Bradley from "Wedding Crashers"...the more clean cut, (still arrogant), rich boy...is sexy too! OMG! Look at those eyes!!!

#3: Gary Sinise

This one might confuse you...but I'm puttting it out there with NO regrets! He is hot!

Good gosh...Mac Taylor is YUMMY!!

PLus...he's in a rock band...it's a charitable band...called what? What else...the Lt. Dan Band! I will be seeing them this summer at the Oshkosh fly-in. My goal is to get his autograph!

He's nice, he puts off an air of power...and he's Lt. Dan...come on! :)


#4: Channing Tatum

I understand that he's on everyone's list right now...but there's a reason...let me show you why!

He can be nice... nice hair, nice suit, nice boy....

Is that not the greatest picture...EVER? I know....i agree...HOTTTTTTTTT! What's not to love? The fact that he shirtless? Or the basketball he's holding?

Oh and did you know that he use to be a male stripper? And they are making a movie about it? Really...pretty sure though that Justin will not let me see it... :(

#5: Ian Somerhalder

Some of you may be asking yourself, "WHO?" I actually first found him on "Lost" but since I never watched that show except a couple of times....I was SO EXCITED to turn on the CW and find him on "The Vampire Diaries"...he's a really great reason to turn on your TV to teen drama!!

Look at THOSE eyes...they melt you don't they? It's like they go right through your soul!SO HOTT!!! So vampirey! So smoldering...You get the point...holy cow!

Also on my list.... Zac Efron, Prince Harry, Brad Pitt, Cory Monteith (Finn from "Glee"), Alex O'Loughlin, Adam Levine, Josh Harnett, Justin Timberlake ... oh and list could go on and on...

Alas, I need to go back to reality!

All things current...my random thoughts

My apoligies for my rant at the end...I understand that some people believe differently than I do...my hope is that everyone can read this and understand (not agree with) my opinions on some issues.

So I'm sure (not really) that you are all wondering what dear ole' Sara thinks about currents events in the world...let's go through them one by one...shall we?

#1: The Royal Wedding:

I love the pic above...btw.

Okay...while I think it is CRAZINESS the amount of press this thing is getting in the US, I somewhat understand the obsession with the event. The US does not have any royals (thank goodness and the Kennedys don't count) so people like to follow the pretty people that England does have. plus, who can resist all the history!?

While I will not be getting up to watch the wedding, I will be DVRing it tomorrow morning. I will watch it sometime next week when there is NOTHING else on. I think Kate Middleton is a pretty girl. I think they are deeply in love. I think that she is NOTHING like Diana (I mean, they lived together...they probably did it once or twice...last week...sorry for my crudeness :)) I have NOT been watching all the TV covereage, which is probably the reason that I am NOT tired of it. But I am ready for it to be over. Sunday will be a good day...and then I guess, we can go on to wonder when Harry and Chelsey are going to get hitched. :)

#2: The Donald:

Y'all know that I am pretty open about my political views. At least I try and be.... I'm not a democrat or a republican...I'm not a liberal or a conservative. I'm a moderate. I don't stick with party lines on all the issues. I actually have a brain of my own and I like to use it. (every once in a while) I choose to...not judge...but decide what I think on issues and about people on my own morals and by using my own brain waves.

I don't think ANYONE in Washington D.C. is doing a GREAT job...some are better than others...but almost all of them suck in one way or another. I mean, I'm not happy with our district's representative or our state senators. I'm not happy with the president or the house speaker...but guess what...they are our leaders and they (I'm hoping at least) are doing the best job they can. But that's just it...I actually don't think some are. I think some were elected b/c we wanted "change"...change from what? Who knows? 2 1/2 years ago, I voted for the presidential canidate I thought could lead our country out of the recession. And the guy I thought was most connected to the people he served...US. We elect our representatives. (minus the president of course..that's another blog post though) President Obama has done the best job he could in the current politcal world in Washington...a volitile, blaming game, sespool of deception.

I digress, but I say all that to say this...

When we are constantly attacking each other, how can we attack the problems that our country is facing? The Donald has made a lot of ripples in the press with his "birther" talk. He's gotten people all amped up b/c he thinks that the president should show us his birth certificate. So, Mr. Obama did yesterday!

My questions are this...
1. Why did ask him to do this?
2. Did the previous 42 president HAVE to do this?
3. Would we do it for someone who's father (or mother) was an immigrant into the US?

Mr. Trump...if you are considering a run for the presidency...maybe you should focus on issues like, I don't know, national security, the Middle East unrest, Unemployment, etc. Just a thought. Shut up and sit down.

#3: As a constituent...

There are a lot of problems in this country. Problems that need to be worked on. (I hesitate to say "fixed" b/c I'm not exactly sure that they can be fixed at this point)

a. The economy = this included gas prices, housing prices, and unemployment

b. Health Care reform = now folks...back off a bit...at this point, i'm sure those of you that are still reading are screaming that I am a LIBERAL!!!!! I'm not...I didn't say socialized health care was the answer...I said that health care reform needs to take place! I'll give you an exlample.

At the beginning of this year, we were "forced" to change our daughter's doctor. While we like her new, current doc...we LOVED her old one. We were forced to change, b/c my husband's insurance coverage changed. In Springfield, MO, we've got two choices of hospitals. Both are GREAT...but employers pick an insurance provider based on the hospital and best (cheaperst) coverage. My husband's employer (my dad) picked the best (cheaper) choice. It just happened to be out of network for Molly's old doctor. This is a small example but I'm frustrated (still) that we can't pick the doctor we wanted.

I emailed (twice) my new representative, Billy Long, to inform him of the situation. I know, "more imortant issues Sara"...but as our representative (a new one even) I wanted him to hear from me. I got a reply today. I have copied it below.

Dear Sara,

Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 2 and H. Res. 9, two legislative measures which will begin the process of repealing and replacing the current health care reform law; I appreciate hearing from you regarding this important issue.

As you may know, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Care and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act, respectively, became law in March of 2010. While the law has some positive components, it would increase spending by $2.6 trillion and does little to reduce health care costs.

The United States offers the highest quality of health care in the world with the best doctors, nurses and hospitals available. Folks from all over the world come here for health care, which reflects how fortunate we are to have such talented people in our health care system.

I firmly believe health care decisions are best left up to patients and doctors, and Washington bureaucrats have no place interfering with the patient-doctor relationship. We need to reform health care in a manner which allows the United States to maintain its top quality care while not causing our national debt to spiral out of control.

Additionally, claims that the health care reform law will reduce the deficit are inaccurate as the current law would eventually bankrupt the system. The current health care reform law relies on budgetary gimmicks, such as not taking into account the $115 billion needed to implement the law, counting the $521 billion taken from Social Security payroll taxes twice instead of once, and cuts in the Medicare program. The law also failed to account for the Medicaid reimbursements Congress annually allocates for doctors, which costs the U.S. Treasury billions of dollars each year.

I have no doubt the health reform law would severely damage our economy and our quality of health care, so I voted for H.R. 2, known formally as the Repeal the Job-Killing Health Care Law. I also voted for H. Res. 9, which instructs various committees to produce legislation which would improve the nation's health care system. Specifically, I would like to see reform which provides people with pre-existing conditions access to affordable health care, protects the doctor-patient relationship and allows students to remain on their parents' health insurance. It is my hope that any new health care reform will achieve these goals while preserving the first-class quality of our health care system.

Again, I certainly appreciate you contacting on this important issue. Hearing from all Missourians allows me to better understand your perspective on issues and how they impact the future of Missouri and the nation. The return email was a form letter!!! I was blown away. While I didn't expect him to sit down and write a heart-felt email back to me...I did (somewhat) expect him (or someone that works for him) to READ the email that I had taken time to write. AND...his email back to me goes against EVERYTHING that I said to him!!!! I am fried up over this...I'm tempted to call his office. I doesn't represent me...if is representing his party...no wait...his wing of his party! Shame on you Mr. Long. This is the guy my area elected to represent us! Oh...and to add insult to injury...he's working to get rid of agricultural subsidies! We live in an agricultural district!!!!

My opinion on all things Charlie Sheen!

Okay...so the guy has gone off the rocker and CBS has cancelled the making of new episodes of T&AH MEN. I understand all that...what I dont' understand is this..."What happened to this guy (besides drugs and alcohol) to make him screwed up in the first place?"

We're talking about the guy who came about in the 80s and made rolls in rolls like "boy in the police station" in Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Bud Fox in "Wall Street" look like biographic rolls.

Let's be honest, "Charlie" in T&AH Men had to have been written with Sheen in mind.....he's so MESSED UP.

I also feel bad for the other actors, stage crew, etc. who have been affected by Sheen's "bad choices"...I mean, come on! John Cryer is funny in the show too! And he started out just like Sheen...a star in the 80s. Ducky is one of my favorite 80s characters!! He's classicly dorky and that's what makes Cryer so funny! He plays Ducky all grown up!

But why am I surprised about what's going on with Sheen? If the parts are so close to home, why did some one not see it before NOW? (oh and I know they have) Maybe it's because I thought those were just movies!! I thought that stars lived their lives seperate from their work. But in some sad cases, (like Heath Ledger and Sheen) maybe they can't.

But on the other hand, Sheen has made a lot of money acting a fool on screen. People (like me) have laughed their way through season after season of Charlie's debotchery...and thought it was hilarious!

Are we, the viewers, and the producers, writers and directors partly to blame for actors like Sheen acting like they do? Do we expect them to act like that? Does it make them worht more money?

If so, that's sad and shame on us!

That's all I have to say about that...oh wait...wrong movie! :)

Show us your life - Beauty Secret

So over at Kelly's Korner, she's asking about beauty secrets. As you know, from the post below...I recently got my hair cut and colored. I thought it might be fun to see past hair.

I need change when it comes to hair. I get bored and change it practically every year.

Kindergarten - 1988 I don't have many pictures from High School on facebook (which is where I pulled all these off of)

College - Frehsman Year (with my roomie Sara...we were Sara squared) Spring 2003- very short and VERY blond... I remember the day I got this hair...I spent way too much on it but at the time, I felt sexy and fun. It didn't hurt that I went to this from my natural color in a pont tail all the time. It's a wonder I even had friends during my freshman year. :)

Same time period - Fall 2004 - Sig Ep formal in little Rock

College - Junior Year - Spring 2005 - I went darker and a little bit shorter - This was my favorite cut and color. It's also the hair I had when I met my dear husband. Summer 2007 - Bachelorette party in Hot Springs - i was growing it out for the wedding. It was blonder than it looks though... July 2007 - Wedding Hair - I loved it that day -

Fall 2007 - When I got home from Hawaii (honeymoon) I cut it and colored it - it was super easy to do - plus I'm a short hair girl!

Fall 2007 Fall 2009/ Winter 2010 - Pregnancy hair - this is pretty much as natural as it gets. I can do it curly or straight. I've got some natural curl so I can gel it and get some volume. It was so full and lush...I loved it.

Fall 2010 - I got in the habit of putting it up wet and using bobby pins to pin the "poof" up...

Since my new hair cut, (last week), I've started using more product than I have ever before. I use Paul Mitchell's Forming foam and spray wax now. I LOVE IT!!! The last couple of days, I've gelled it and scrunched it. I love this new hair. The color and the cut are so me. It's very easy to do and I love the fact that it doesn't have to be done "perfectly" to look good. Messy is way easier.
Make-up wise:

I am a simple kind of girl. I wear Almay concealer, loose powder and Mac blush. My eye make-up is what I change the most - mostly all Almay (I love the smoky eye shadows). I buy all my make-up and "face supplies" at the drug store or Target.

RIP Richard "Dick" Winters

I know that I've posted a lot today (I promise I actually work) but there's a lot of stuff that just keep s coming up.

My dad called me a little bit ago and told me some sad news...

One of my true heros dies today. His name is Richard Winters.

If you know me, you know that I like (maybe love) World War II. Mr. Winters served our country during WWII. He was a paratrooper in the 101st Airbourne Division. Those are the guys who jumped on Normandy on D-day and on Holland in Operation market Garden...he fought at Batogne and was there with E Company when they raided Berchtesgaden and Hitler's Eagle's Nest. He was immortalized in the HBO series "Band of Brother's". He is a true American Hero!

Rest in Peace Mr. Winter's.

Another baby?

I know that's an interesting post title. No, I'm not pregnant. But it's been on my mind a lot lately and I thought I'd get some things off my chest and out into the internet world. (some sort of sarcasm there)

The back story:

Originally, I always wanted 4 kids. I loved those movies with big families sitting around the dinner table after thier kids have grown. (think the FAMILY STONE)

Justin, however, envisioned a smaller family with 2 kids. He's a little bit older than I am so logistically, 2 might be the better option.

We're half way there if that's the case. So, if 2 is the end all, we've got some time. But in the back of my mind, I still want 4...but I'm willing to compromise at 3. :)

Molly is a handfull and I love her for it. On one hand, I'm ready for another baby...ready for another pregnancy. On the other hand, having another little one scares the poopy out of me.

What if I get to overwhelmed? (which I've been known to do from time to time) What if I can't handle two?

At this point, if we got pregnant in the next few months, we would be looking at another winter/spring baby in 2012. If we waited till summer, we would be looking at late spring/early summer. The later allowing Miss Molly to be our only baby for a little while longer.

So many options...

My sadness

** DISCLAMER**

I'm not really good at expressing my feelings in writing.

I try to keep politics off my blog b/c this is of course, not for me, it's really for Molly. But the recent events in Arizona have made me...for a lack of better words...sad.

Since November's mid-term election...that's not really true, it's really been since the 2008 Presidential election... I've been sad for our country and the government in the country.

I'm sure it didn't start in 2008 but it was then that I started noticing how the politicans in our country talk to each other. How they were talking ABOUT each other.

Many people who know me, know that I really don't like Sarah Palin. It's not that she's a conservative...it's NOT her political views or her party!!!! It's the way she made a name for herself. She's not a politican anymore...she's a flapping mouth. She stirs the pot! She talks about people, our leaders (despite what you think of Mr. Obama, he's the leader of our country for the next couple of years) like he's a leach that needs to be pulled off and drained of the blood of America. But it's not just President Obama. She talked about Congresswoman Giffords during the election as if she was on a hit list.

But here's the thing...it's not just at the national level that I'm seeing this. Today, in the Springfield News-Leader (the only local paper we have to read), there was an editorial about the NEW presiding commissioner. But the base of the editorial was how the new one was different from the old one. The outgoing Presiding Commissioner has served our county for 22 years. He's a no-bull, tough guy, bully (that's NOT a direct quote)...or so they said in editorial. But Dave, that's the outgoing commissioner's name, goes to church with me and is NOT the man that they painted in the paper. Nor is it the same man that was beat in November's election. The county I live in did him a huge dis-service by not re-electing him. He's not the liberal agenda pushing, fiscally irresponsible political they slandered him as. He's a decent, thoughtful, good Christian man who proudly and graciously served the people of Greene county.

Shame on you Springfield News - Leader!
Shame on you for printing an editorial like this on the DAY AFTER a congresswoman is shot.
Shame on you for letting one of your editors speak about a FORMER politican the way he did after he's let office.

My anger during the elction was directed towards those indivduals who used their political party to win the election they were running for. Today, my anger is directed towards those people who speak about people as if they were dirt.

I would like to challenge everyone to speak to each other and about our politicans and each other with a little respect.

I've been doing some blog updating...as you can see. Totally decorated for the Christmas season...(it's the only thing that's decorated for Christmas - more on that some other time) Anywhoo..............I started following a new blog today... It's such a perfect day! Her blog is full of funny quirky things that make you feel good. But I digress...what's more important is that she introduced me to the webiste "Damn you Autocorrect" H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S!!! Rolling on the floor laughing funny stuff!

New Hair

Since this , or this , or this , is how I'm currently wearing my hair...b/c I hate the cut. I need some new hair for the Christmas season and the new year...here's what I'm thinking...Jennifer Nettles short style... sooo cute!!!

But with a twist...how about instead of blond...go dark!! Like Mandy Moore...

Secret Menu Items? Whhhhaaaattt?

Apparently I've been missing out...I found this on AOL today...here's the website....

Apparently there are items at certain resturants that do not appear on the menu but that you can get anyways...CRAZINESS!!! I'm so going to try this....

So, this past week has been kinda stressful on Momma Floyd...

Wednesday - Justin left early to go to Columbia with my dad to get their airplane...more to come on that later...
I got Molly ready by myself...which isn't a big deal but I was running late for a meeting and I was flustered. I was getting Molly dressed on her changing table and I bent down to get some socks and she fell....HEAD FIRST - THREE FEET!!!! Needless to say, I freaked!!

I called the doctor and they gave my directions and things to watch for. But she was fine...she cried for 30 seconds and then started playing.

But my mom came over later in the morning...I stayed home from work...I was still VERY emotional but we decided to go get something to eat. While we were deciding where to eat...I flipped over to Ellen on the TV. OUr local news interrupted Ellen and said that a plane had crashed at Springfield's downtown airport (around 10:45)...

Now...the hubbie had a text arund 10:30 that siad they were off the ground, and on their way home. It takes 30 -45 minutes to get from Columbia to Springfield in their airplane. But, again...needless to say...my mom and I freaked!!!

It wasn't them but a woman did die and I would like to ask you to pray for her family.

I was stressed by the end of the night and couldn't sleep...mainly b/c I was having to wake Molly up every 2 hours...

I was better on Friday and I have heard a lot of other stories from people whose children took tumbles as well...but it still freaked me out.

Justin is still learning how to fly as well. I'm okay with that...I'm very proud of him to doing this...it's a huge deal. I'm not going to lie...I'm nervous but I was before the plane crashed.

I hope I didn't worry anyone too bad. Everything is okay!! Thank you for all your prayers..they were answered.
